Severe asthma is associated with more allergies
Professor Graham Roberts has led a European team in a study assessing the interrelationships between allergy and asthma. Professor Roberts is one of the Trustees of the AAIR Charity. The research has now been published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. The research team looked at allergic IgE sensitisation to a large range of allergens including common ones such as house dust mite, pollen, pets and foods. Similar patterns of sensitisation were seen across school children, adolescent and adults with asthma. Individuals with severe asthma had allergic sensitisation to many more allergens. This research improves our understanding of severe asthma and offers a way of highlighting which patients have severe asthma.
